Revell London Bus 1:24 Scale RL07651

£65.95

DETAILS

The AEC Routemaster was first publicly presented in 1954. Compared to previous bus types, the Routemaster with its integral chassis and body design was downright innovative. In particular, the open platform entry back left, which allowed a quick entry and exit (Hop on and off), characterized the 1958 series-produced biplane.

At the end of the 1950s, changed regulations also permitted the operation of buses over nine meters in length on only two axles. Some routemasters were then split in the middle and an additional area in the middle was inserted, which was recognisable by square windows.

The new bus type, the Routemaster long, short RML, now offered a total of 72 passengers. The fulminant success of 15 test vehicles convinced London Transport, order another 500 copies of the RML, which were produced from 1965 to 1968.

In the 1970s, more and more RMLs in the inner city area of London performed their service. With the constant presence of the typical red biplane on almost all routes, the image of the Routemaster became a typical landmark of London. It was not until 2005, after nearly 50 years of constant use, that the general operation of this figurehead from London was discontinued.
