Revell U-Boat Type XXI With Visable Interior 1:144 Scale RL05078

£21.95

DETAILS

At the beginning of 1945 Germany had the most advanced submarine of the world, the Type XXI. Thanks to numerous technical innovations, it was able to drive under water indefinitely, as the diesel engines sucked in the fresh air they needed through a special snorkel.

Designed for underwater rides and a threefold larger battery capacity, the sensational underwater speed of 17 knots. Other innovations included low-noise electric motors for creeping, highly sensitive locating devices and 2 cm anti-aircraft gun turrets.

The model gives through the split left fuselage outer wall an authentic insight into this groundbreaking submarine. Many rooms are reproduced true to detail, including the diesel and electric motors. Insights into the command center and crew quarters give an idea of life under water.

The decal includes interior details and labels for U2540, which was put into service on 24.02.1945. After a short training trip U2540 was sunk on 04.05.1945 by the crew in the Flensburg Fjord. Lifted in 1957, it served the German navy as a pilot boat Wilhelm Bauer. Today, U2540 can be visited as a museum boat.
