Here we are with part two, converting a diecast toy Jaguar XJ12C into a track car.

The job details I highlighted in my last post now allow me to focus on the work.

The body shell, the interior with the dash panel and glazing would be kept. The enclosed picture shows the parts I did not need.

The work involves removing the engine and bonnet. This allows me to build a new, very low bonnet that’s essentially a large scoop! I would also be building a very large boot mounted spoiler. The sides of the body required more work. I had to remove the ‘B’ pillar and rebuild it in a slightly different location. I then had to reduce the size of the ‘C’ pillar.

The front wheel arches did not require any work but the rear wheel arches and the whole rear wing had to be extensively widened and the way I achieved this was quite fascinating in modellers terms.
Once I took the model car apart, it was time to grab some drilling and grinding tools!jaguar xj12c

Detail on the back of the Jaguar XJ12C model such as the area for the rear number plate and both petrol filler caps will be taken away.

Next time is very exciting as I tackle the very wide rear wheel arches and wings!
