Jaguar XJ12C Conversion

An interesting commission job with a Jaguar XJ12C Model.

My task was to build a model car based on a real racing Jaguar using a Corgi toy for a customer who was part of a team planning to present the model to the driver of the real car during a reunion.

This customer commission was suggesting I use a model  purchased for the job. However, during the discussion it was established this model was made of resin and due to the amount of work I would be doing  meant that resin dust with in the workshop area would be a problem. At the time of the build we did not have any air extraction system.

He asked me if I could source a more suitable model and the blue toy car in the picture is the one I went for. It is a 1/36 scale metal diecast Jaguar XJ12C made by Corgi.

I have worked with this type of metal many times in the past so was confident in choosing this model. It was also smaller than the 1/18 scale resin first offered.

Next task was to research the real car and source pictures of the actual racing Jaguar XJ12C and the customer was very helpful with sending various magazine article pictures to me.
I had to conduct a lengthy question and answer session via emails about how good (or bad!) does he want the model, does he want working features such as opening parts and steering etc.

So, model obtained, research as complete as it needed to be at this early stage, a worksheet drawn up and financial details settled, all was set in place for the project to begin!

Next time I will talk about actually starting on the model.
